Field hockey has three things most scorebugs don't handle: penalty corners, players off on timed suspensions, and a shootout to settle a tie. The ScoreCastr field hockey dashboard covers all three, with suspension clocks that run with the game clock. This guide walks through the field hockey Scoring tab card by card.
Set up the match
Create the match: pick Field Hockey, name both teams and set their four-character scorebug names. See Create your first match. Open it with Control Dashboard and stay on the Scoring tab.
Quarter length is set on the dashboard. A new match starts with 15-minute quarters.
Quarters and the clock
In the SCORING CONTROLS card:
- QUARTER: Q1 to Q4, OT and SO jump straight to that period. Each one starts with a full, stopped clock (the shootout has no clock). Next and Prev step through them; Prev keeps the time on the clock. Set FNL marks the game final (it reads FINAL) and stops the clock.
- GAME CLOCK: pick 15 min (Standard), 12 min, 10 min or 8 min (Youth). Changing it resets and stops the clock. Then Start and Stop, Reset, and +1m, -1m, +10s and -10s. Hide Clock takes it off the scorebug. The clock stops by itself at 0:00.
Goals
Each team box shows the total and a row for Q1, Q2, Q3, Q4, OT and SO, each with its own minus and plus to fix an earlier period.
- +1 Goal adds a goal to the current period and plays the GOAL takeover on the scorebug.
- −1 Goal takes one off, with no animation.
- Trigger Goal Flag Only plays the GOAL animation without changing the score.
The GOALS section of the Shortcuts card does the same as +1 Goal. ScoreCastr doesn't record goal scorers or assists.
Penalty corners and strokes
Under Penalty Corner Overlay, click Away Corner or Home Corner when a corner is awarded. A PENALTY CORNER bar shows under the scorebug and the button reads ▶ Away Corner ON. Click it again, or Clear All Corners, when the corner is over. A goal doesn't clear it.
The corner bar doesn't count the corner. Count it with the PENALTY CORNERS section of the Shortcuts card, or the Pen. Corners row in Team Statistics.
On Apex and Primetime (Starter plan), a Penalty Stroke Overlay box appears below it. Away Stroke or Home Stroke shows a PENALTY STROKE bar. One bar shows at a time: a stroke replaces a corner and a corner replaces a stroke. Count strokes in Team Statistics (Penalty Strokes and PS Goals).
Cards and suspensions
The CARDS & SUSPENSIONS card works on every plan.
- Under Issue Card, click the team.
- Pick Green, Yellow or Red.
- Optionally type the player in Player # or name (optional), for example 7, #7 or 7-Smith.
- For green and yellow, check the Duration. It fills in 120 seconds for green (2 minutes) and 300 seconds for yellow (5 minutes). Change it if the umpire gives longer.
- Click Issue Card.
The card flashes on the scorebug, counts toward the team's total and starts a suspension. Each team's suspensions list shows the time left. A red card shows REMOVED and has no clock: the player is out for the game.
Suspension clocks run with the game clock. They stop when it stops and carry across quarter breaks. When one runs out it drops off the list. Click X to remove one early.
Shootout
Click SO (or Next from overtime) to go to the shootout. A PENALTY SHOOTOUT card appears with each team's shootout score and minus and plus buttons. +1 Goal and the GOALS shortcut also add to the shootout score while you're in it.
The ATTEMPTS grid fills in from the score, so it shows goals, not misses. Shootout goals are kept separate from the game score. When it's decided, click End → Final, or ← Back to OT if you went too early.
Stats and the Shortcuts card
The SHORTCUTS card has quick +1 buttons, one per team, under GOALS, SHOTS, SHOTS ON GOAL, SAVES, PENALTY CORNERS and FOULS. Under VISIBILITY, SHOW TITLE turns on the scorebug's title bar.
TEAM STATISTICS (Starter plan) has plus and minus buttons for Shots, SOG, Saves, Fouls, Pen. Corners, corner goals, Penalty Strokes, PS Goals and green, yellow and red cards, plus Save %. The eye on a row shows that stat on the scorebug until you click it again.
In the sidebar, Download Box Score saves a PDF of the game and Download CSV Data saves the stats as a spreadsheet file.
Graphics and Stream Deck
On Starter, field hockey adds Away Starters and Home Starters (eleven players) and Halftime Stats to the shared graphics under Overlays, then Customization. On Apex and Primetime, Halftime Stats has a Show Comparison Bars switch.
Field hockey codes run from 2800 to 2863. Codes need Listening Mode (Starter plan).
| Code | Action |
|---|---|
| 2808 / 2809 | Start / Stop Clock |
| 2816 / 2818 | Away / Home Goal +1 (no animation) |
