Home/Guides/Matches and the dashboard

Run several matches at once

Every match has its own control dashboard and its own overlay links, so you can run games on different fields or courts side by side. Here's how to keep them apart and how plan limits work.

A Saturday with a varsity game on the main field and a JV game next door, or three courts running at a volleyball event: one ScoreCastr account can cover all of it. Each match runs on its own, with its own dashboard, its own overlay links and its own public page. This guide covers how to set that up cleanly and how many matches your plan allows at once.

Short versionCreate one match per game. Open each match's Control Dashboard in its own browser tab or on its own device, and give each OBS its own match's Channel 1 link. Free allows 1 active match, Starter 10, Pro 25, Enterprise unlimited.

Each match is separate

Every match you create gets:

  • Its own Control Dashboard. Scoring, overlays and game actions for that game only.
  • Its own overlay links. The Channel 1 and Channel 2 links on the dashboard include the match's number, so they only ever show that match's graphics.
  • Its own public match page from Share Match.

A change on one match's dashboard never touches another match. You can run different sports at the same time, too, like a soccer match and a field hockey match on the same afternoon.

Set up the matches

  1. Create a match for each game. See Create your first match.
  2. Name the teams clearly, so you can tell the matches apart on your list. If the same two programs play twice (varsity and JV), say so in the team name or the scorebug Title.
  3. On your match list (Match Management), each game shows under Active Matches with its own Control Dashboard and Open Overlay buttons.

To find a match on a long list, type a team name in the search box at the top, or pick a sport in the Sport filter.

Run the dashboards side by side

  • One scorekeeper, several games: open each match's Control Dashboard in its own browser tab. Check the team names on the scorebug preview at the top before you tap anything.
  • One scorekeeper per game: each person signs in to your ScoreCastr account on their own laptop, tablet or phone and opens their match. The dashboard works in any browser. See Run the dashboard from a phone or tablet.

Each dashboard has its own status dot at the top (Live, Slow or Offline), so each scorekeeper can see their own connection.

Set up OBS for each game

Each stream needs the overlay link for its own match.

  1. Open the match's dashboard, then Overlays, then Live Preview.
  2. Click Copy Channel 1 URL and add it to that game's OBS as a browser source at 1920 by 1080. See Add your overlay to OBS.
  3. Repeat for the next match, in the OBS that streams that game.

If one computer runs two streams, or you switch between games in one OBS, name each browser source after its game ("Field 1 scorebug", "Field 2 scorebug") so nobody puts the wrong scorebug on air.

Watch outOverlay links look almost the same from one match to the next. After pasting, change the score on the dashboard you expect and check the right OBS updates.

How many matches your plan allows

Plan Active matches at a time
Free 1
Starter 10
Pro 25
Enterprise Unlimited

The limit is on active matches, not on how many you've ever created.

What counts as active

ScoreCastr counts a match as active for 24 hours after you create it. A match with the Data Hub switched on (Enable ScoreCastr, Pro) keeps counting for as long as it's on.

Ending a match moves it to Completed Matches on your list, but it can still count toward your limit until those 24 hours are up. If you need the spot straight away, delete a match you no longer need. Deleting frees its spot at once. See Reset or delete a match.

When you reach the limit

  • A banner on your match list and dashboard shows Approaching Match Limit as you get close, then Match Limit Reached with how many matches you're using. It has Manage matches and Upgrade plan buttons.
  • If you try to create a match over the limit, you'll see Error Creating Match with "Active match limit reached", and the match isn't created.

To make room, delete matches you're done with, wait for older matches to pass their 24 hours, or move to a bigger plan. See Free, Starter, Pro and Enterprise.
