Reset or delete a match

Reset Match puts the score, clock and stats back to the start and keeps the teams. Deleting removes the match and its links for good.

Sometimes you need a clean start: a test run before the real game, a wrong tap that set off the clock, or a match you set up for warmups. Other times a match has done its job and you want it off your list. ScoreCastr has two tools for this. Reset Match starts the same match over. Delete removes it completely. Neither can be undone, so this guide explains exactly what each one does first.

Short versionTo start over, open the match's Control Dashboard, go to Game Actions and click Reset Match. To remove a match, click the trash can on its card in your match list and confirm Delete.

Reset or delete: which one you need

Reset Match Delete
Where Game Actions tab on the dashboard Your match list (Match Management)
Score, clock, period, stats Back to the start Gone
Teams, colors, logos Kept Gone
Overlay links and public page Keep working Stop working
Can you undo it No No

There's no archive. A match you're finished with either stays on your list under Completed Matches or gets deleted.

Reset a match

  1. Open the match's Control Dashboard.
  2. Click the Game Actions tab. You'll see the Match Actions card.
  3. Click Reset Match.
  4. ScoreCastr asks: Reset Entire Match. It warns that all scores, periods and stats go back to 0.
  5. Click Reset Match to confirm, or Cancel.

The reset happens straight away, and your overlays show the fresh score within a moment. If you're on air, do it during a break or with the scorebug hidden.

What a reset keeps

A reset clears what happens during play: scores, the clock, the period or inning, stats, timeouts, fouls, cards and penalties, and the Final. It doesn't touch the match setup:

  • Team names, scorebug names, colors and logos stay.
  • Your graphics template and overlay settings stay.
  • Most sports keep their game length setting. Football and basketball keep the quarter length, field hockey keeps its quarter and overtime lengths, ice hockey keeps the period length, baseball and softball keep the number of innings, and MMA keeps the rounds, round length and judge names.
  • Tennis and pickleball clear the sets, games and points as well.
  • Swimming starts the meet over: the lanes, event and standings points are cleared, and the teams stay.

A reset also makes the match active again. If you'd ended it, it moves from Completed Matches back to Active Matches on your list.

TipBaseball and softball also have a smaller reset. On the Scoring tab, open RESET CONTROLS and click Reset All Stats to clear the count, bases, inning, runs, hits, errors, batters and pitchers without resetting the whole match.

Delete a match

  1. Go to your match list. On the dashboard, click Back to Match List.
  2. Find the match card. Click the trash can icon in its top-right corner.
  3. ScoreCastr asks: Delete Match, "Are you sure you want to delete this match? This action cannot be undone."
  4. Click Delete. You'll see "Match deleted successfully".

You can't delete a match from inside its dashboard. It's done from the list.

Delete several matches at once

  1. On your match list, tick the checkbox at the left of each match you want to remove.
  2. A bar appears at the top showing how many are selected. Click Delete Selected.
  3. Confirm with Delete All Selected.

This is the quickest way to clear out a season of finished matches or a batch of test matches.

What happens when you delete

  • The match, its score, stats and settings are removed for good.
  • Its overlay links stop working. If a deleted match is still in an OBS scene, that browser source will show nothing, so remove it from OBS too.
  • Its public match page stops working for anyone you shared it with.
  • Its spot in your plan's active match limit is freed right away. See Run several matches at once.

Saved teams under My Teams aren't affected. Deleting a match never deletes a team or its roster.

Fix common problems

"Reset Failed". The reset didn't go through. Check the status dot at the top of the dashboard says Live, then try again.

"Failed to delete match. Please try again." The match is still there. Wait a moment and try again. If you were deleting several, check which ones are left on the list and repeat for those.

You reset by mistake. There's no undo. Re-enter the score and period by hand from the Scoring tab. See Keep score live.

Checklist

  • Reset done from Game Actions, during a break or with the scorebug hidden
  • Score, clock and period checked after the reset
