Pair the streaming phone

The second phone joins your match by scanning a pairing code from the scoring phone. It doesn't need a ScoreCastr account.

In a two-phone setup, one phone keeps score and the other films. The filming phone has to know which match's scorebug to put on the video. You tell it by pairing: the scoring phone shows a code, and the streaming phone scans it. This guide covers how to pair, who can hold the streaming phone, and what to check before you go live.

Short versionOpen the match on the scoring phone and bring up its pairing code. On the streaming phone, open ScoreCastr, tap Stream and scan the code. No sign-in needed on that phone.

What you need

Pair the phones

  1. On the scoring phone, open the match and bring up its pairing code (a QR code).
  2. On the streaming phone, open ScoreCastr and tap Stream.
  3. Point the streaming phone's camera at the pairing code on the scoring phone.
  4. The streaming phone opens the stream screen for that match, with the scorebug on the camera picture.

Do this before you mount the streaming phone on the tripod. It's easier with both phones in your hands.

No account on the streaming phone

The streaming phone doesn't sign in. That's on purpose: the person filming can be a parent, a student or a volunteer with their own phone, and they never need your ScoreCastr password.

The streaming phone only shows and streams the match. All scoring happens on the scoring phone, which needs the account that owns the match.

TipThe pairing code is tied to one match. Pair again for each new match, and don't post the code anywhere public.

What the streaming phone shows

Once paired, the streaming phone puts the real ScoreCastr scorebug on its video, in the match's template and colors. Every score you tap on the scoring phone shows up on it. There's a switch to turn the scorebug off when you want a clean shot. See Phone camera controls.

To change the template or colors, do it on the website. The streaming phone picks up the match's settings. See Switch graphics templates.

Check before you go live

  1. Make one change on the scoring phone, such as adding a point.
  2. Check that the scorebug on the streaming phone changes.
  3. Put the score back.

If that works, the phones are paired and talking to the match. Next, add your stream key and go live. See Stream to YouTube from your phone or Other stream destinations.

Fix common problems

  • The streaming phone shows the wrong match. Pair again using the code from the match you're scoring.
  • The scorebug doesn't change when you score. Check both phones have a connection. Then check the scoring phone is signed in with the account that owns the match.
  • The scorebug looks wrong. The template, colors, names and logos come from the match's settings on the website.
