Other stream destinations

The iPhone app streams anywhere that gives you a server URL and a stream key. Here's where to find them on Facebook, Twitch, Restream, the NFHS Network and custom servers.

YouTube isn't the only place to stream. The ScoreCastr app doesn't sign in to any platform. It needs two things from wherever you're streaming: a server URL and a stream key. Paste them in and tap Go Live, the same as for YouTube. This guide covers where each platform keeps them.

Short versionGet the server URL and stream key from your platform, paste them into the app on the streaming phone and tap Go Live. Facebook, Twitch, Restream, the NFHS Network and custom RTMP or RTMPS servers have all been tested.

How every destination works

  1. Pair the streaming phone. See Pair the streaming phone.
  2. Get the server URL and stream key from the platform (below).
  3. Paste both into the app's stream destination.
  4. Tap Go Live.

Video goes straight from the phone to that platform. ScoreCastr never hosts it. Each platform sets its own rules on who can stream; check its help pages for your account. For YouTube, see Stream to YouTube from your phone.

Watch outTreat every stream key like a password. Anyone who has it can stream to your channel.

Facebook

  1. Open Facebook's Live Producer.
  2. Choose to stream with streaming software.
  3. Copy the server URL and the stream key. Facebook uses RTMPS, a secure version of RTMP.

You can stream to a Page, a profile or a group. Facebook has an option to keep the same key for future broadcasts, which saves pasting a new one before every game.

Twitch

Your stream key is in the Twitch Creator Dashboard, under Settings, then Stream. Paste it into the app with a Twitch server URL; Twitch lists its servers in its help pages. Never share the key; anyone with it can stream to your channel.

Restream, for several platforms at once

Restream lets one stream go to several places, for example YouTube and Facebook together. The phone sends one stream, and Restream relays it.

  1. In Restream, connect the channels you want to stream to.
  2. Copy Restream's RTMP server and your Restream stream key.
  3. Paste them into the app and go live.

How many channels you can connect depends on your Restream plan. Check Restream's site.

The NFHS Network

Schools in the NFHS Network's School Broadcast Program get a stream key, through NFHS's Broadcast Me app or their account, for NFHS's own RTMP server. Paste that server URL and key into the app like any other destination.

Watch outMany state associations give the NFHS Network exclusive rights to postseason games, and the rules vary by state. Before game day, confirm the event, the rights and the stream key with your athletic director. The studio's streaming rights guide covers what to ask.

Any RTMP or RTMPS server

Any service that gives you a server URL and a stream key works: a school or district streaming platform, a church streaming service, or a private media server. The URL usually starts with rtmp:// or rtmps://. Ask whoever runs the service for both values, and paste them into the app.

Fix common problems

  • The stream doesn't start. Check the server URL and key are both pasted in full, with no spaces at the ends, and that they're from the same platform.
  • It worked last week and now doesn't. Some platforms give a new key for each broadcast. Copy the current one.
  • The platform shows nothing. Some platforms need you to start or schedule the broadcast on their side first. Check the platform's help.
