Lower thirds and talent graphics

Put a player's name and a line of detail on screen with a lower third, and introduce your announcers with the Talent and Talent Bar graphics.

Updated 4 min readStarter

A lower third is the name strip that slides in near the bottom of the screen: the goal scorer, the coach after a timeout, the player of the game. ScoreCastr has two lower thirds per match, plus two graphics for the people calling the game. This guide covers where to fill them in, how to put them on air and what changes between templates.

Short versionFill in the lower thirds and the talent graphics under Overlays, then Customization, and show them from the Overlay Visibility panel. Use Talent for one announcer and Talent Bar for two. All four need the Starter plan.

The four graphics

Graphic What it shows Shortcut code
Away Lower Third (Lower Third 1) A name, a second line and a logo 1004
Home Lower Third (Lower Third 2) The same, for the home side 1005
Talent One announcer: a name, a role and a network logo 1017
Talent Bar Two announcers side by side, with a network logo 1016

Every sport has all four. In the Overlay Visibility panel, team sports and MMA call the lower thirds Away Lower Third and Home Lower Third. Tennis, pickleball and swimming call them Lower Third 1 and Lower Third 2.

Watch outIn the Customization list, only soccer labels the tabs **Away Lower Third** and **Home Lower Third**. Every other sport lists them as **Lower Third 1** and **Lower Third 2**, even when the panel heading inside says Away or Home. Lower Third 1 is always the away side.

Fill in a lower third

  1. Open the match's Control Dashboard, then Overlays, then Customization.
  2. Choose Lower Third 1 (away) or Lower Third 2 (home).
  3. In a team sport, pick a name from Select Player. It fills Title with that player's name from the team's saved roster. If the list says "No player roster found", add players to the team first, or type the name.
  4. Type the Title (line one) and the Subtitle (line two), for example "Number 10, senior forward".
  5. Optional: Upload Logo for a team or school logo. Remove Logo takes it off.

Changes save on their own a moment after you stop typing. In soccer, football, MMA and volleyball, the lower third uses the scorebug's team logo when you don't upload one.

Put it on air

Click Show Away Lower Third (or Show Lower Third 1) in the Overlay Visibility panel, and click it again to hide it. A lower third stays up until you hide it, so take it down when the moment has passed. See Show and hide graphics.

To show a different player, change the Title and Subtitle while the graphic is hidden, then show it again. Typing while it's on air changes the text live.

Talent: one announcer

The Talent tab has three fields:

  • Title: the announcer's name.
  • Subtitle: their role, like "Play-by-play".
  • Network Logo: Upload Logo for your station or school logo.

Show it with Show Talent, or code 1017.

Talent Bar: two announcers

The Talent Bar tab has Talent Name/Info for the first announcer and Talent 2 Name/Info for the second, plus a Network Logo.

On Apex and Primetime, it also has Talent 1 Role and Talent 2 Role (up to 60 characters each), such as Play-by-Play and Analyst. Classic shows the two names only, so these fields don't appear on a Classic match.

Show it with Show Talent Bar, or code 1016.

Classic, Apex and Primetime

The fields are the same on every template, but each one draws them its own way:

  • Classic: set the colors in each graphic's Color Customization panel, on the right of its tab.
  • Apex and Primetime: that panel is replaced by a note. One set of colors covers every graphic, set under Graphics Template, then Colors. Primetime puts the lower third in the team's color, and both templates keep the talent graphics in neutral colors. See Switch templates.
  • Subtitle on Apex and Primetime: the second line sits in a pill under the name. If you leave it empty, the team name shows there.
TipOn Apex and Primetime, a middle dot with a space on each side ( · ) splits the Subtitle or a talent role into separate segments in the pill, like Senior · Forward · #10. Copy the dot from here if your keyboard doesn't have it.

Channel Assignment

Each of the four tabs starts with Channel Assignment: Channel 1, Channel 2 or Both Channels. New matches use Channel 1. If you run your full-screen graphics on a second browser source, leave lower thirds on Channel 1 with the scorebug so they share the game camera. See Use two output channels.

Fix common problems

The lower third shows the wrong side's name. Lower Third 1 is the away team and Lower Third 2 is home. Check which tab you typed in.

Select Player is missing. It only appears in team sports. In MMA, tennis, pickleball and swimming, type the name.

The role fields aren't there. They appear on Apex and Primetime matches only.

The graphic doesn't appear in OBS. Check its Channel Assignment against the browser source you're watching.
