Keep score live

Every score change on the dashboard reaches your overlay in a moment. Here's how scoring works across sports, how to fix a wrong score, and what the big-moment buttons do.

The score is the one thing viewers check every few seconds, so it has to be right and it has to be quick. On ScoreCastr you score from the match's Control Dashboard, and the scorebug in OBS changes a moment later. This guide covers the scoring controls every sport shares, how to fix a mistake, and how to check what's on air.

Short versionOpen the Scoring tab on the Control Dashboard and use the plus buttons for each team. If you make a mistake, use the matching minus button. There's no general undo button, so fix the score the same way you changed it.

Where you score

  1. On your match list, click Control Dashboard on the match.
  2. The Scoring tab opens first. It holds the score, the clock and the period for your sport.
  3. The scorebug preview at the top of the page shows the scorebug as it looks right now.

Scoring works on every plan, including Free.

How each sport scores

Each sport scores its own way. The common pattern is a plus button for each team, and a minus button next to it.

Sport How you add points
Basketball +1, +2, +3 for each team, or pick a team, a shot type and MAKE or MISS to record the shot too
Football +1, +2, +3, +6 for each team, or Touchdown, Field Goal, Extra Point, 2 Point Conversion and Safety in SHORTCUTS
Soccer AWAY GOAL and HOME GOAL
Ice hockey +1 for each team
Field hockey +1 Goal for each team
Volleyball +1 for each team
Baseball, softball + and - beside each team's runs, or the hit buttons
Tennis, pickleball +1 for each player, which moves through points, games and sets
MMA Judges' scorecards and the winner, not points

Each sport's guide covers its controls in full, for example Run a basketball game.

Fix a wrong score

ScoreCastr doesn't have a general undo button. To fix a score, use the minus button for that team: -1 in basketball, ice hockey, volleyball, tennis and pickleball, -1 and -3 in football, −1 Goal in field hockey, and - beside the runs in baseball and softball.

A few things to know:

  • Most minus buttons take off one point at a time, so a wrong basketball three takes three clicks of -1.
  • The football SHORTCUTS buttons score for the team with possession (Safety scores for the other team). Check possession before you press one.
  • Baseball and softball have Undo Last Stat under each team's batter. It undoes the last batting result recorded for that batter.
  • Basketball keeps a score for each quarter. A minus takes points off the current quarter's score.
TipFix the score as soon as you notice, while the play is fresh. Then glance at the scorebug preview to check the total.

Big-moment buttons

Some scoring buttons do more than add points. They also play a short graphic on the overlay:

  • Football: Touchdown and Field Goal.
  • Soccer: AWAY GOAL and HOME GOAL.
  • Ice hockey and field hockey: adding a goal.
  • Baseball and softball: Home Run.

Field hockey also has Trigger Goal Flag Only, which plays the goal graphic without changing the score.

Some templates add more of these. On Apex and Primetime, basketball and volleyball have a TAKEOVERS section in SHORTCUTS, for example End of Quarter and Show Winner in basketball.

Check what's on air

  • The scorebug preview at the top of the dashboard follows every change.
  • For the full output, open Overlays, then Live Preview. The Preview card shows what's going to OBS. Pop Out opens it in a small window you can keep beside the dashboard.
  • Watch the status dot at the top of the dashboard. Live means your changes are reaching the broadcast. See The status dot.

When a change doesn't stick

If the server doesn't accept a change, you'll see Change not saved with the reason. The most common ones:

  • "The match changed while this update was being sent." Make your change again.
  • "This match was completed with End Match and can no longer be edited." The match has ended. See End a match.

Score faster with shortcuts

Every scoring control has a 4-digit code. With Listening Mode on (Starter plan), a numpad or Stream Deck can score with one press. See Set up a Stream Deck.
