Substitutions are easy to miss on a stream, especially from a wide camera. A quick strip under the scorebug tells viewers who came on and who went off. In ScoreCastr it takes two numbers and one click. This guide covers the SUBSTITUTIONS card, what the strip looks like on each template and the common slip-ups.
Show a substitution
The SUBSTITUTIONS card is on the soccer Scoring tab, under SCORING CONTROLS. It works on every plan.
- When the board goes up, type the incoming player's number in Away In # and the outgoing player's number in Away Out #. For the home team, use Home In # and Home Out #.
- Click Away Sub or Home Sub.
The strip shows under the scorebug for a few seconds, then goes away.
The button stays greyed out until both boxes for that team have a number. The boxes take numbers only, not names.
What viewers see
| Template | The strip |
|---|---|
| Classic | SUB #12 IN ▲ #9 OUT ▼, in the team's color |
| Apex | SUB #12 ▲ IN #9 ▼ OUT |
| Primetime | SUB, the team's short name, ▲ #12 ▼ #9 |
On Apex and Primetime, the sub strip and the goal scorer strip share the same spot under the scorebug. If you show a scorer and then a sub straight away, the sub replaces the scorer.
Several subs at once
Teams often make two or three changes at one stoppage. Show them one at a time:
- Enter the first pair and click the sub button.
- Wait for the strip to go, so viewers can read it.
- Type over both numbers with the next pair and click again.
The boxes keep the last numbers after you click, so always type over both before the next sub. Otherwise you'll show the same change twice.
What the dashboard doesn't do
- Substitutions aren't saved to the match or counted in the stats. The strip is the whole feature.
- There's no Stream Deck code for a substitution, so use the dashboard buttons. If you run the rest of the match from a Stream Deck, keep the dashboard open next to it.
- There's no lineup or formation graphic for soccer matches. To introduce a player, use the Away Lower Third or Home Lower Third, or the player bio graphics (Starter plan).
Fix common problems
The sub button is greyed out. One of the two boxes for that team is empty. Fill in both the in and out numbers.
The strip showed the previous sub. The numbers from the last change were still in the boxes. Type over both before clicking.
Nothing showed on the stream. Check that your OBS browser source uses the match's Channel 1 link and sits above the camera. See Add your overlay to OBS.
