Create a swim meet

A swim meet is one match in ScoreCastr that runs every event and heat. Set up the teams, the meet details and the pool once, then run the heats from the Scoring tab.

Swimming works differently from the other sports in ScoreCastr. There's no home and away team and no game clock. A meet is one match that holds every team, and you run it event by event and heat by heat. This guide covers the setup you do once, before the first heat.

Short versionCreate a new match, pick Swimming, then Dual Meet or Multi-Team Meet. Add the teams on the Teams tab, fill in the meet name, venue and pool on the Meet & Venue tab, pick a graphics template, then Preview and Create Meet.

Pick the meet type

  1. Start a new match and choose the Swimming tile.
  2. On Select Meet Type, pick one:
    • Dual Meet: exactly two teams.
    • Multi-Team Meet: three or more teams.

The Meet Setup page that follows has two tabs, Teams and Meet & Venue. You can move between them in any order.

Add the teams

On the Teams tab, every team in the meet gets a row. Two empty rows are there to start. Click Edit on a row to fill it in, and Done to close it.

For each team:

  • Select from My Teams fills in a team you've saved before, with its name, logo and color.
  • Team Name: the full name.
  • Short (4 max): a short name of up to 4 characters, like MARL. It's used where space is tight. Leave it empty and ScoreCastr uses the first four letters of the name.
  • Team Logo: upload the team's logo.
  • Team Color: pick a color, or type a hex code like #1F3A6E. The swimming graphics use it.

Click + Add Team for each extra team in a multi-team meet. A dual meet stops at two. The X on a row removes that team.

Watch outGet the team names, logos and colors right here. Once the meet is created, the dashboard has no place to change a meet team's name, logo or color.

Enter the meet and venue

On the Meet & Venue tab, under Meet Details:

  • Meet Logo: one logo for the meet. It shows on the title card, the event bug and the lane board.
  • Meet Name, for example "Marlow Invitational". This is required.
  • Subtitle: starts as "Swimming Championships". Change it or clear it.
  • Session, like "Finals · Day 2", and Date and time, like "Saturday · 6:00 PM".

Under Venue, add the venue name, city and state. They appear on the title card.

The meet name and session also become the event bug's top and bottom lines. With the Starter plan you can change those lines later under Overlays, then Customization, then Event Bug.

Set up the pool

Meet Settings, at the bottom of the Meet & Venue tab, describes the pool:

Setting Choices Default
Course Yards (SCY), Meters (SCM), Meters (LCM) Yards (SCY)
Lanes 6, 8 or 10 8
Lane Numbers Starting at 1 (1 to 8) or at 0 (0 to 7) Starting at 1
Results Order By place or By lane By place

Set Lane Numbers to match how the pool labels its lanes. Many 10-lane pools number them 0 to 9, so the graphics should too. Results Order decides how the results board lists swimmers: fastest first, or in lane order.

With the Starter plan you can change the lanes, lane numbers and results order later under Overlays, then Customization, then Lane Results.

Pick a template and preview

Below the tabs, choose the graphics template for the meet: Classic, Apex or Primetime. Apex and Primetime need a paid plan. See Switch templates.

Click Preview. If it's greyed out, the line under the button says what's missing:

  • a meet name on the Meet & Venue tab
  • for a dual meet, names for both teams
  • for a multi-team meet, at least 2 team names

Rows without a team name are left out of the meet.

Create the meet

The Preview Meet page shows the event bug in your template with a sample event, plus a summary of the meet: type, teams, meet name, venue, logo, course, lanes and template. The real events come from the Scoring tab.

Click Create Meet. You're taken back to your match list. Open the meet with Control Dashboard.

A meet counts toward your plan's active matches like any other match. See Plans explained.
