Run a swim meet from the Scoring tab

Set the event and heat, fill in the lanes, put the start list on air, then type the times. Places fill in from the times, and nothing half-typed reaches the broadcast.

A swim meet moves fast: a heat every minute or two, eight or ten lanes each, and times you type in from the scoreboard or the timing desk. ScoreCastr's Scoring tab is built for that loop. You set up the heat, send the start list, enter the results and move to the next heat, while the graphics follow.

Short versionOn the Scoring tab, set the event and heat, fill in the lanes and click Update Start List. After the race, switch Lane Board Shows to Results, type the times and click Update Lane Results. Places fill in from the times. Next Heat starts the next one.

Set the event

Open the meet's Control Dashboard and stay on Scoring. The Swimming card holds the event at the top:

  • Event: the event number in the small box and the name beside it, like 7 and "Girls 50 Yard Freestyle".
  • Heat: -1 and +1 change the heat. Type the number of heats in the box after "of".
  • Round: Prelims, Finals or Timed Final.
  • Event Type: Individual or Relay.

These save as soon as you change them (a text box saves when you click out of it or press Enter), and the event bug updates on air.

If you've imported a meet program, you don't type any of this: see Import a meet program.

Fill in the lanes

The lane table has a row for each lane, numbered the way the pool numbers them:

Column What to enter
Swimmer (or Relay) The swimmer's name. For a relay, the relay name like "Marlow A", with the relay swimmers on the optional line underneath.
Team Pick the team from the meet's teams.
Seed The seed time, like 1:53.90.
Time The final time, after the race.
Status OK, DQ, NS or SCR.
Place Fills in from the times (see below).

Leave a lane's name empty if no one is swimming in it. Empty lanes don't appear on the graphics.

Send the start list

Lane changes don't go on air as you type. They wait, so half-typed names never flash on the broadcast.

  1. Set Lane Board Shows to Start List.
  2. Fill in the lanes.
  3. Click Update Start List.

While you have changes that haven't been sent, Not on air yet shows under the buttons. Discard throws those changes away and puts the table back to what's on air.

The Lane Board Shows choice waits for Update too, along with the lanes.

Enter the results

  1. Switch Lane Board Shows to Results.
  2. Type each swimmer's time, like 52.48 or 1:52.48.
  3. Set Status for any swimmer who didn't finish: DQ (disqualified), NS (no show) or SCR (scratch). Those lanes show the status instead of a time and go to the bottom of the results.
  4. Click Update Lane Results.

Automatic places

AUTO PLACE FROM TIMES is on when a meet starts. The fastest time gets 1, the next 2, and equal times share a place (1, 2, 2, 4). A lane with no time, a time it can't read, or a DQ, NS or SCR status gets no place.

Typing a place yourself turns auto place off, so the times don't overwrite your places. Click the button to turn it back on. The line under the buttons tells you which mode you're in.

On the results board, By place puts placed swimmers first, fastest first, and By lane keeps lane order. You picked one when you created the meet; it's under Overlays, then Customization, then Lane Results (Starter).

Show the winner

The Winner Lower Third card puts a swimmer on Lower Third 1:

  1. Click Use on a lane to pick a swimmer. If you don't pick one, the swimmer in first place is used.
  2. Check the Title (the name) and Subtitle, which reads like "1st · Girls 50 Free · 24.38".
  3. Click Show Lower Third 1. Click Hide Lower Third 1 to take it down.

Showing it writes the name, subtitle and team logo into Lower Third 1, replacing whatever was there.

Move to the next heat

Click Next Heat (Clear Lanes). It goes on air at once: the next heat number, empty lanes and the start list. Any unsent changes are dropped. Fill in the new lanes and click Update Start List.

With a meet program loaded, the button reads like Next Heat → Event 12 · Heat 3 and loads that heat into the table for you to check and send.

Team standings and plans

Team points aren't worked out from the places. Type each team's points under Overlays, then Customization, then Team Standings, and show the Team Standings graphic from the Overlay Visibility panel. See Swimming graphics.

The Scoring tab and the event bug work on every plan. Customization and the Overlay Visibility panel, which show the lane board, team standings and the other graphics, need the Starter plan. See Plans explained.

Game Actions

The Game Actions tab has two swimming tools:

  • Clear Lane Results empties every lane of the current event: swimmers, teams, seeds, times and places. The event, heat, teams and standings stay. It asks you to confirm.
  • Reset Match takes the meet back to the start: heat 1, no event, empty lanes and the standings points cleared. The teams, records and titles stay.

End Match locks the meet's results. See End a match.
