A saved roster saves you typing all season. Once a team's players are in ScoreCastr, you pick them from lists for player bios, player stats, lower thirds, batters and pitchers instead of typing names mid-game. This guide covers adding players by hand, importing a spreadsheet and fixing the common upload errors.
Before you start
- The Starter plan or higher, for My Teams.
- The team saved in My Teams. See Create a team.
- Your roster with each player's jersey number, name, position and class year.
Add players by hand
- Click your username, then My Teams, then the team's name.
- On the Team Roster tab, each row has Jersey #, Name, Position and Year.
- Type the number and name, and pick the position and year from the lists.
- Click Save Roster. You'll see "Roster Updated".
Leave rows you don't need empty. Players without a name don't show in the graphics' player lists.
How many players each sport holds
The roster has a fixed number of rows for each sport:
| Sport | Roster rows |
|---|---|
| Football | 100 |
| Baseball, softball | 25 |
| Ice hockey | 23 |
| Soccer, field hockey | 22 |
| Volleyball | 18 |
| Basketball | 15 |
The position list follows the sport, for example Point Guard or Center for basketball, Setter or Libero for volleyball, Pitcher or Shortstop for baseball. Field hockey uses the soccer positions. The Year list is Freshman, Sophomore, Junior, Senior, Graduate and Other.
Import a roster from a CSV file
- On the Team Roster tab, click Bulk Upload.
- Click Download Template. You get a CSV with the header row and one empty row for every spot on the roster.
- Open it in Excel, Google Sheets or Numbers and fill in one player per row:
- name: the player's name as it should show on air
- jerseyNumber: the number
- position: the full position name, spelled as in the Position list, for example "Midfielder" or "First Base"
- year: Freshman, Sophomore, Junior, Senior, Graduate or Other
- Save it as a CSV file.
- Back in ScoreCastr, click Choose File, pick the file and click Upload.
The upload saves the roster and fills the table. Check it, fix anything that came through wrong and click Save Roster if you changed something.
Example files: a 22-player soccer roster and a 25-player baseball roster.
What happens after you save
- New matches: picking the team under Select from My Teams brings the roster in.
- Existing matches: saving a roster also copies it into matches you've already made with this team's name. Field hockey matches keep the roster they were created with.
- Graphics: Select Player from Roster in Player Bio, Player Stats and Lower Third reads the saved team by its name, so it always shows the latest roster. See Player bios from your roster.
Fix common problems
"Invalid File: Please select a CSV file." The file isn't a CSV. In your spreadsheet app, save or download it as CSV (comma-separated values), not as .xlsx or .numbers.
"Invalid CSV file". Usually the header row is wrong. The first row must be exactly name, jerseyNumber, position, year. Start from the downloaded template so the headers are right.
"Invalid roster size". The file has more rows than the sport's roster holds, empty rows included. Delete extra rows at the bottom. Fewer rows is fine: the rest stay empty.
A player is missing after the upload. Two rows had the same name and only the first was kept. Make each name unique, for example by adding an initial.
The Position box looks empty. The position in the file isn't spelled like one in the list. Pick it from the list and save.
The roster doesn't show in a match. The match's team name must match the saved team's name. Two saved teams with the same name can also show the wrong players. See Same team twice in the list.
