Lineups and starters

Show each team's starting lineup before the game: five for basketball, eleven for football, the batting order for baseball. Here's how many players each sport has, the fields, and how each template draws them.

Introducing the starters is part of every broadcast. ScoreCastr has a lineup graphic for each team, with every player's number, name and position, in a layout made for the sport. This guide covers which sports have lineups, how to fill them in and what to watch for on each template.

Short versionOpen Overlays > Customization > Away Starters (then Home Starters), type each player's number, name and position, and show it with Show Away Starters in the Overlay Visibility panel. Football, baseball and softball also have Away Defense and Home Defense. Needs the Starter plan.

Which sports have lineups

Sport Starters Defense Default positions in the boxes
Football 11 (offense) 11 Offense QB, RB, FB, WR, WR, WR, TE, LT, LG, C, RG; defense DE, DT, DT, DE, LB, LB, LB, CB, S, S, CB
Basketball 5 None PG, SG, SF, PF, C
Volleyball 7 None OH, OH, MB, MB, S, L, DS
Ice hockey 6 None LW, C, RW, LD, RD, G
Field hockey 11 None RF, CF, LF, RM, CM, LM, RB, CB, CB, LB, GK
Baseball 9 (batting order) 9 fielders You type them
Softball 9 (10 with a FLEX on Apex and Primetime) 9 fielders You type them

Soccer, MMA, tennis and pickleball have no lineup graphics.

The baseball and softball defense graphic places each fielder on a diamond. It has its own guide: Defense on the diamond.

What you need

The Starter plan. Lineups are filled in under Customization and shown from the Overlay Visibility panel, which both come with Starter.

Fill in a lineup

  1. Open the match's Control Dashboard.
  2. Open Overlays, then Customization, then Away Starters (or Home Starters, Away Defense, Home Defense).
  3. Fill in the header fields (below).
  4. For each row, Player 1 onward, type the Number, Name and Position.

Header fields for football, basketball, volleyball, ice hockey and field hockey:

  • Team Logo: the team's logo. Without one, it uses the scorebug team logo.
  • Title: the heading, like "AWAY STARTERS". Leave it empty to use the template's own label.
  • Left Logo and Right Logo: two more logos, like your network and a sponsor. Apex and Primetime put the left one in a network logo spot and the right one in a sponsor spot.

Baseball and softball Starters have Team Logo, Title (Team Name), Sponsor Logo with a Show Sponsor switch, and nine rows under Starting Lineup in batting order.

Text saves on its own a moment after you stop typing. Logos must be images under 5 MB.

Watch outIn football, basketball, volleyball, ice hockey and field hockey, each Position box shows a default position before you type anything, but nothing is saved until you type. Classic then draws a default of its own, and Apex and Primetime show no position at all. Type every position, even when the box already shows the right one.

The last row in most lineups is the featured player, shown bigger or highlighted:

Lineup Featured row Apex label
Football offense Player 11 QUARTERBACK
Football defense Player 11 DEFENSIVE CAPTAIN
Volleyball Player 7 LIBERO
Ice hockey Player 6 GOALIE
Field hockey Player 11 GOALKEEPER

Basketball and the baseball batting order have no featured player. In football, the default positions in the boxes start with QB, so move your quarterback to Player 11 if you want them featured.

On Classic, the featured card has its own colors in the lineup's Color Customization panel (Featured Player Card).

Fill every row on Classic

On Classic, empty rows aren't left blank in most sports: football, basketball, volleyball and ice hockey show a sample number and position, and field hockey shows a position. In football, basketball, volleyball, ice hockey and field hockey, an empty Left Logo shows the ScoreCastr logo. Fill in every row and both logos before you put a Classic lineup on air.

Apex and Primetime leave empty rows empty and keep the layout in shape.

Baseball and softball batting order

Type the nine batters in order. On Apex and Primetime, the batter at the plate gets an AT BAT tag while their team is batting. It matches the name to the batter name on the dashboard, so type names the same way in both places.

The Starters section also has an Auto-fill from Team button, but it doesn't fill the rows today. Type the batting order yourself. (The defense graphic's Auto-fill from Team does work; see Defense on the diamond.)

For softball's 10th row, FLEX (does not bat), see Run a softball game.

Show it on air

In the Overlay Visibility panel, click Show Away Starters, Show Home Starters, Show Away Defense or Show Home Defense. Click again to hide it. With Listening Mode on, the codes are 1011 (Away Starters), 1012 (Home Starters), 1013 (Away Defense) and 1014 (Home Defense). See Show and hide graphics.

A good rhythm: show the away lineup, then the home lineup, during pregame introductions. In football, show each team's offense or defense as it takes the field.

Each lineup has its own Channel Assignment (Channel 1, Channel 2 or Both Channels). See Two output channels.

Fix common problems

Numbers or positions I didn't type are showing. That's Classic's sample text for empty rows. Fill in every row.

Positions are missing on Apex or Primetime. The box showed a default you never typed. Type the position.

The ScoreCastr logo is on my lineup. The Left Logo is empty on Classic. Upload your own.

Auto-fill from Team did nothing on the batting order. Type the batters in by hand.
