Between half-innings is the natural moment to show who's in the field. ScoreCastr's defense graphic places each fielder at their spot on a diamond, with numbers and names, for the away team and the home team. This guide covers filling it in, styling it and putting it on air.
What you need
- A baseball or softball match. (Football has its own Away Defense and Home Defense graphics, which are a lineup, not a diamond.)
- The Starter plan. The Customization sub-tab and the Overlay Visibility panel both come with Starter.
- Optional: both teams saved in My Teams with rosters and positions, so you can auto-fill.
Open the defense settings
- Open the match's Control Dashboard.
- Click the Overlays tab, then Customization.
- Pick Away Defense or Home Defense from the list on the left (on a phone, from the row of buttons at the top).
Each team has its own graphic, so set up both.
Fill in the nine positions
The Defensive Positions list always has the same nine spots, in this order: P, C, 1B, 2B, 3B, SS, LF, CF and RF. Each spot has a Number and a Name box.
You can fill them two ways:
- Auto-fill from Team: fills each position from the team's roster in My Teams, by matching each player's roster position to the spot. If the team has no roster ScoreCastr can use, you'll see "No roster data".
- By hand: type the number and name for each spot.
Auto-fill only fills spots it can match, so check the list afterwards and type in anyone it missed. A designated hitter has no spot on this graphic, because it shows the fielders.
Title, logos and sponsor
Above the positions:
- Team Logo: upload a logo for this graphic. Without one, it uses the logo from that team's Starters graphic, then the team logo.
- Title (Team Name): the heading on the graphic. It starts as the team name.
- Sponsor Logo: upload a sponsor's logo and turn Show Sponsor on or off.
At the top of the card, Channel Assignment chooses whether the graphic appears on Channel 1, Channel 2 or Both Channels. See Add your overlay to OBS for how the two channels work.
How it looks on each template
| Template | What viewers see |
|---|---|
| Classic | A green diamond with each player's number and name at their position. The pitcher's card is highlighted. |
| Apex | Apex's own field layout with a DEFENSE heading, in your Apex colors |
| Primetime | Primetime's own field layout, in your Primetime colors |
On Classic, the right side of the card has Color Customization: title bar, logo backgrounds, the standard player cards and the featured player card. The featured card is the pitcher. On Apex and Primetime, the colors come from the Graphics Template tab instead, one set for every graphic. See Switch templates.
Show it on air
In the sidebar's Overlay Visibility panel, click Show Away Defense or Show Home Defense. The button turns to Hide Away Defense or Hide Home Defense while it's on air. Click again to take it down.
With Listening Mode on, codes 1013 (Away Defense) and 1014 (Home Defense) do the same from a Stream Deck or keypad. See Set up a Stream Deck.
A good rhythm: show the fielding team's defense at the start of each half-inning, before the first pitch, and hide it once the batter is in the box. Show it again after a pitching change or a defensive switch.
Softball and the FLEX
Softball uses the same nine positions. On Apex and Primetime, a softball lineup can have a 10th FLEX spot, but that's on the Starters graphic (the batting order), not the defense. See Run a softball game.
Fix common problems
Auto-fill left spots empty. The roster's positions didn't match those spots, for example no player listed as Shortstop. Type them in, or fix the positions in My Teams.
"No roster data". The team isn't saved in My Teams with a roster that matches this match. Fill the spots by hand.
The colors don't change on Apex or Primetime. Those templates use the Graphics Template colors. The Color Customization panel only shows on Classic.
The graphic doesn't appear in OBS. Check its Channel Assignment matches the channel URL your OBS browser source uses.
