Many crews have one person on the score and another keeping stats. If your stat keeper uses StatsCastr, you can link their game to your ScoreCastr match so their numbers show in your player stats graphics without anyone retyping them. This guide covers linking, the roster, checking the link and putting a player's stats on air.
What you need
- The Pro plan (or Enterprise). On other plans the ScoreCastr button on the Scoring tab shows a lock and a Pro badge.
- To be the match's owner. Only the account that owns the match can create a link code.
- A StatsCastr account for the stat keeper. StatsCastr runs in a phone, tablet or laptop browser.
- One of the 9 sports both apps share: basketball, football, soccer, volleyball, baseball, softball, tennis, ice hockey and field hockey. Pickleball, MMA and swimming have no StatsCastr tab.
Create the link code
- Open the match's control dashboard and stay on the Scoring tab.
- Click the ScoreCastr button at the top of your sport's controls. The ScoreCastr Data Hub window opens.
- Open the StatsCastr tab.
- Click Link StatsCastr.
You'll see a QR code and a code like K7Q2-M9XD, with "Code expires in" and a countdown. The code lasts 10 minutes and works once. If it runs out, you'll see "That code expired. Make a new one to link." Click New code any time for a fresh one.
Keep the window open. It checks every couple of seconds and shows "Linked ✓" as soon as the stat keeper finishes.
Link from StatsCastr
On the stat keeper's phone:
- Scan the QR code with the phone's camera. It opens statscastr.co/link with the code filled in. Or go to statscastr.co/link and type the code.
- Tap Continue. If StatsCastr has been idle, it can take up to a minute to wake up.
- Under Which StatsCastr game?, pick an existing game of the same sport, or Create a new game from this match, which brings over the teams from ScoreCastr.
- Under Team sides, check which team is which. For an existing game, use Swap if they're reversed. For a new game, pick a StatsCastr team for each side or create one from ScoreCastr.
- Tap Link game.
Import the roster
When you create a new game and a team has no players in StatsCastr, you'll see a box like "Import 18 players for Central from ScoreCastr". Tick it to bring over the players your match already has. Those come from the team's roster in My Teams when you created the match, so set rosters up first. See Import a roster.
Check the link
Back in ScoreCastr, the StatsCastr tab shows a status line like "Linked to StatsCastr · updated 3s ago", with the stat keeper's email. A green dot also shows on the tab itself.
- The dot turns amber when no stats have arrived for 60 seconds during a live StatsCastr game. Check the stat keeper's phone is online.
- If the two apps disagree on the score for more than 15 seconds, you'll see a note like "StatsCastr has 2-1 · ScoreCastr has 3-1". Nothing changes on its own: your scorebug keeps ScoreCastr's score.
In StatsCastr, the stat keeper sees a chip on the game: ScoreCastr · Live, ScoreCastr · Catching up or ScoreCastr error. Tapping it opens Resync now, which sends the latest stats again, and Unlink.
Put a player's stats on air
The player stats graphics are where StatsCastr numbers go today. They're for the eight team sports, so a linked tennis match has no player stats graphic to fill.
- Open Overlays, then Customization, then Away Player Stats (or Home Player Stats).
- At the top, set Data source to StatsCastr. This switch only shows once the match is linked.
- Under Player, choose from the StatsCastr roster, shown as number and name. Or click Last play to pick the player in the most recent play, for example after a goal. It's greyed out when the last play was by the other team.
- Four stat boxes fill in from the first group of stats that player has. Change any box to another stat, set one to "manual value" to keep what you typed, or type your own Label.
- Check the small preview, then show the graphic with Show Away Player Stats in the Overlay Visibility panel.
The headline and colors still come from your own settings. The numbers update by themselves as plays are logged. For the rest of the graphic's fields, see Player stats and player bios.
Change or end the link
- Link a different game: replaces the link. The old game stops sending, and graphics keep its last numbers until the new one sends its first update.
- Unlink: StatsCastr stops sending. Graphics on air keep the last numbers, and the tab shows "Unlinked: showing last StatsCastr data". You can link again with a new code.
Fix common problems
"StatsCastr is included with Pro plans." Your plan doesn't include StatsCastr. See Plans explained.
The game you want isn't in the list. StatsCastr only offers games of the match's sport that haven't finished. Create a new game from the match instead.
"Waiting for the first stats from StatsCastr." The link works but no plays have been sent yet. Your typed values show until then.
No players in the Player list. That team has no players in the StatsCastr game. Add them in StatsCastr.
