Every level plays a little differently. A high school basketball quarter is 8 minutes, a pro one is 12. A youth football game might use 10-minute quarters. ScoreCastr has a setting for the differences that matter most to the clock and the score. Some you pick when you create the match, some live on the dashboard, and a few are fixed. This guide lists them all, sport by sport, so you can set up the match right before the game.

Settings you choose when you create the match
These are on the new-match form. See Create your first match.
- MMA: under Fight Details, Scheduled Rounds (3 Rounds or 5 Rounds) and Round Length (3 Minutes or 5 Minutes). New fights start at 3 rounds of 5 minutes. The dashboard's round buttons run from round 1 to the last scheduled round.
- Tennis: under Match Settings, Best of Sets: 1 Set, 3 Sets or 5 Sets. It starts at 3.
- Pickleball: under Match Settings, Best of Sets, Points to Win (11, 15 or 21 Points) and Win By (Win by 1 or Win by 2). It starts at best of 3, games to 11, win by 2.
Settings on the dashboard
Each of these is on the Scoring tab, next to the game clock. You can change them during the match.
Basketball: the dropdown under TIME sets the quarter length. Matches start on Professional (12 min), so pick High School (8 min) for a high school game. Changing it puts the clock back to a full quarter.
Football: the Select Level dropdown under TIME sets the quarter length. Matches start on Professional (15 min). Changing it puts the clock back to a full quarter.
Ice hockey: the dropdown under GAME CLOCK sets the period length. Matches start on Professional (20 min). Changing it stops the clock and resets it to a full period.
Field hockey: the dropdown under GAME CLOCK sets the quarter length. Matches start at 15 min (Standard). Changing it stops the clock and resets it to the new length.
Soccer: the Timer Mode dropdown in the GAME CLOCK section picks Count Up to 45 (the default) or Count Down from 45. You can only change it while the clock is stopped, and changing it resets the clock to 0:00 or 45:00.
Set these before kickoff or tip-off. A change mid-quarter resets the clock, so you'd have to put the time back by hand.
The basketball bonus rule
Basketball matches on Apex or Primetime show each team's fouls and bonus on the scorebug. Bonus rule decides when a team shows as in the bonus:
- 7 and 10 (bonus at 7, double bonus at 10), the default
- 5, no double bonus
- Off
You pick it when you create the match, and you can change it any time in the SHORTCUTS card on the Scoring tab. Apex and Primetime need the Starter plan. See Switch templates.
Rules that are fixed
These work the same in every match, with no setting:
- Soccer: halves are 45 minutes. A penalty shootout is 5 kicks each, then sudden death.
- Volleyball: best of 5 sets. Each team has 2 timeouts per set.
- Baseball and softball: baseball is 9 innings and softball is 7. Extra innings happen when you keep advancing the half-inning past the last one.
- Football: overtime periods are 10 minutes. Each team has 3 timeouts, back to 3 at the start of the third quarter.
- Ice hockey: overtime uses the same length as a period, followed by a shootout.
- Basketball: each team starts with 5 timeouts. The shot clock has preset buttons for 14, 24, 30 and 35 seconds.
- Tennis: a tiebreak starts automatically at 6-6 in every set.
For what each sport tracks during play, see Stats by sport.
Reset keeps your settings
Reset Match on the Game Actions tab clears the score, clock and stats, but keeps the length settings: the quarter or period length, the number of innings, and MMA's rounds and round length.
