Baseball and softball pitcher stats

ScoreCastr counts every pitch from the count buttons, keeps each pitcher's line through a pitching change, and puts the pitch count on the scorebug.

Updated 4 min readStarter

Pitch counts matter in school baseball and softball, and viewers like to see them. ScoreCastr counts them for you as you score the count, so there's no second tally to keep. This guide covers the PITCHING card on the baseball and softball dashboards, pitching changes, and the pitcher bar on the scorebug.

Short versionIn the PITCHING card, pick or type each team's pitcher. Every +Ball, +Strike and Foul Ball then adds to that pitcher's counts. Click Show Away Pitcher Stats or Show Home Pitcher Stats to put the line under the scorebug.

What you need

The PITCHING card is on the Scoring tab of a baseball or softball match. It comes with the Starter plan; on Free it shows dimmed with an upgrade prompt. The pitch counting itself happens on every plan, but you need Starter to see the counts and show them on air.

What ScoreCastr counts

Each pitcher has four counters:

Counter Goes up when you press
Pitches +Ball, +Strike or Foul Ball
Balls Thrown +Ball
Strikes Thrown +Strike or Foul Ball
Strikeouts +Strike on strike three

The pitch goes to the team in the field: in the top of the inning the home pitcher is throwing, and in the bottom the away pitcher. The pitcher who is on the mound is highlighted in the card.

A few things don't add to a pitcher's counts:

  • -Ball and -Strike. They fix the batter's count, not the pitcher's. Use the pitcher's own - buttons for that.
  • Single, Double, Triple, Home Run and Out. These don't count a pitch, so the pitch the batter hit isn't counted. Add it with the + under Pitches (and Strikes Thrown if you want it there too).
  • The K batter button. It writes the batter's line only. The pitcher's strikeout comes from the third +Strike.
  • Walks. Ball four walks the batter, but the pitcher's walks aren't counted from the dashboard.

Pick the pitcher

The card has an AWAY PITCHER box and a HOME PITCHER box.

  1. If the team is saved in My Teams with a roster, use Select Pitcher. It lists players whose roster position is Pitcher, Relief Pitcher or Closer.
  2. Otherwise, type the name into Pitcher Name.

Each box shows Pitches, Strikeouts, Balls Thrown and Strikes Thrown with + and - buttons, so you can fix any count by hand.

Pitching changes

Use the Select Pitcher list to bring in a new pitcher. ScoreCastr saves the outgoing pitcher's counts and starts the new pitcher at zero. If an earlier pitcher comes back later in the game, their counts come back with them.

Typing in Pitcher Name is different: it renames the current pitcher and keeps the counts. That's handy for fixing a spelling, but it isn't a pitching change.

TipSet up both rosters in My Teams before the game, with your pitchers' positions filled in. Then every change is one pick from the list, and nobody's pitch count gets carried over to the next pitcher.

On Apex and Primetime, the Shortcuts card also has a PITCHING CHANGE button that plays a flag over the fielding team. It's only the flag; change the pitcher in the PITCHING card as well.

Show the pitcher bar

Under each pitcher, click Show Away Pitcher Stats or Show Home Pitcher Stats. A bar in the team's color drops under the scorebug with the pitcher's name and the line:

Label Meaning
P The pitcher's name
TP Total pitches
B Balls thrown
S Strikes thrown
K Strikeouts

The bar updates live with every pitch. Click the button again (now Hide Away Pitcher Stats or Hide Home Pitcher Stats) to take it down. The bar is on all three templates, Classic, Apex and Primetime.

With Listening Mode on, codes 1009 and 1010 show and hide the away and home pitcher bars from a Stream Deck. See Set up a Stream Deck.

Pitch counts on the Game Stats graphic

The Game Stats graphic (Overlays, then Customization, then Game Stats) compares the two teams side by side. Its default rows include STRIKEOUTS and PITCHES, which fill in from the pitchers' counts. Each team's column shows its own pitchers' numbers.

Other choices in the list, like ERA or walks, aren't counted by the dashboard. If you want one, switch that row's Manual to ON and type the numbers.

Fix common problems

There's no Select Pitcher list. The team isn't saved in My Teams, its name doesn't match, or no player on the roster has the position Pitcher, Relief Pitcher or Closer. Type the name instead, or fix the roster.

The new pitcher started with the old pitcher's count. The name was typed over, which renames instead of changing pitchers. Use the - buttons to correct the counts, and use the list for the next change.

The counts went up for the wrong pitcher. Check the inning half. In the top of the inning, pitches go to the home pitcher. If TOP or BOT is wrong, fix it in the INNING box, then fix the counts.

Reset All Stats cleared the pitchers. It clears pitcher names and counts along with the rest of the game. It asks you to confirm first.
