Run a tennis match

Score point by point. Points roll into games and games into sets, the tiebreak starts itself at 6-6, and the serve switches after every game.

Tennis is the easiest sport to score in ScoreCastr if you let the app do the counting: one click per point, and it works out games, sets, the tiebreak and who serves next. This guide is a tour of the tennis dashboard, from setup to the graphics. The scoring rules have their own guide, Tennis scoring, and so does the serve, Tennis serve tracking.

Short versionClick +1 under the player who won the point. ScoreCastr rolls points into games and sets, starts the tiebreak at 6-6 and switches the serve after each game. Use the 0, 15, 30, 40 and ADV buttons and the GAMES and SETS buttons only to fix mistakes.

Create a tennis match

Pick Tennis on the Select Sport screen, then Singles Match or Doubles Match. Enter the players' names and seeds, and choose Best of Sets: 1 Set, 3 Sets or 5 Sets. See Create your first match. Open the match with Control Dashboard.

The scoring card

The Scoring tab has one card, titled Tennis. Its top corner has the ScoreCastr button (the Data Hub, a Pro feature) and a keyboard icon that lists the shortcut codes.

Each player (or doubles team) has a column:

  • -1 and +1: take away or add a point. This is the button you use all match.
  • Serving: marks who is serving.
  • Score, Games and Sets: where the player stands. Score reads 0, 15, 30, 40 or ADV.

The fix-up buttons

Below the columns are controls for correcting the score without replaying points:

  • 0, 15, 30, 40, ADV: one row per player. Click one to set that player's point score directly. ADV only works when the other player is on 40.
  • SETS (with each player's name): -1 and +1 change the sets won.
  • GAMES (with each player's name): -1 and +1 change the games in the current set.

These set the number you click and nothing more. Adding a game here doesn't finish the set or start a tiebreak, so use them to correct, then carry on with +1.

The tiebreak

At 6-6 in games, ScoreCastr starts a tiebreak by itself:

  • ADDITIONAL DISPLAYS shows TIE-BREAK lit up.
  • The main -1 and +1 buttons turn grey.
  • A TIE-BREAK panel appears with its own -1 and +1 for each player. Score the tiebreak points there.

The first player to seven tiebreak points, two ahead, wins the set 7-6. The scorebug keeps the tiebreak score next to that set. Details are in Tennis scoring.

When the match ends

Once a player wins the sets they need (two in a best of three), the card title shows (Match Complete) and the buttons lock. The scorebug shows MATCH COMPLETE with the winner's name.

To finish the match on your list, or start over, use the Game Actions tab: see End a match and Reset or delete a match.

Match Statistics

With the Starter plan, the sidebar's Match Statistics panel shows:

  • Match Duration: from the first point scored.
  • Points Won: each player's total, with the percentage of all points.
  • Games Won: across the whole match.
  • Sets Won.
  • Currently Serving.

Graphics for tennis

On the Overlays tab, Customization (Starter) has the Score Bug, Scoreboard, Title Card, Lower Third 1, Lower Third 2, Keys to Match, Talent, Talent Bar, Scrolling Ticker and Watermark.

On the Score Bug tab you can set a Title and Subtitle, override the player names shown (with Player 3 Name and Player 4 Name for doubles partners), and add a Logo with a show-logo switch. Seeds show next to the names.

Apex and Primetime extras

On the Apex and Primetime templates:

  • AUTO POINT TAB: a button under the scoring controls, on by default. It puts BREAK POINT, SET POINT or MATCH POINT beside the player who's one point away, worked out from the score. Click it to switch to AUTO POINT TAB: OFF.
  • Records on the title card: the Title Card tab adds Player 1 Record and Player 2 Record.
  • At the end, the winner gets a trophy and the other player's row dims.

Stream Deck codes

There's no ready-made tennis profile yet, but the universal codes cover tennis. Make your own buttons with the Text action:

Code Action
2002 / 2001 Player 1 point +1 / -1
2005 / 2004 Player 2 point +1 / -1
2003 / 2006 Player 1 serving / Player 2 serving
2009 to 2013 Set Player 1 to 0, 15, 30, 40, ADV
2014 to 2018 Set Player 2 to 0, 15, 30, 40, ADV

The point codes don't work during a tiebreak; score tiebreak points on the dashboard. See Set up a Stream Deck for Listening Mode and building buttons.
