Big moments: touchdown, goal and home run takeovers

The buttons that put a touchdown, goal or home run across the scorebug, plus the flags for aces, blocks, knockdowns and more on Apex and Primetime.

When the home team scores, viewers expect the graphic to react. In ScoreCastr, the scorebug plays a takeover or a flag when you score with the right button. This guide lists every one by sport: which button plays it, which template has it and whether it changes the score or stats.

Short versionScore from your sport's Shortcuts card (or the goal buttons) to play the animation. Plain plus and minus buttons change the score quietly, which is what you want for fixes. Most flags beyond touchdowns, goals and home runs need Apex or Primetime.

Takeovers and flags

A takeover fills the scorebug for a few seconds, like GOAL or TOUCHDOWN, then the score comes back. A flag is a smaller tab or strip on the scorebug, like ACE over one team. Both play once and clear themselves. You don't need to show or hide anything.

They play on whatever template the match uses. Each template draws them its own way.

Every template: touchdowns, goals and home runs

These work on Classic, Apex and Primetime, on every plan:

Sport Button What it plays What else it does
Football Touchdown (Shortcuts card) Touchdown takeover +6 to the team with the ball
Football Field Goal Field goal flag +3 to the team with the ball
Football 2 Point Conversion Two-point flag +2 to the team with the ball
Soccer AWAY GOAL / HOME GOAL GOAL takeover Adds the goal
Ice hockey Team buttons under GOALS (Shortcuts card) GOAL takeover Adds the goal to the period and the team's goal count
Ice hockey Green +1 in a team panel GOAL takeover Adds the goal, not counted in the goal stats
Field hockey +1 Goal GOAL takeover Adds the goal to the current period
Field hockey Trigger Goal Flag Only GOAL takeover Nothing: the score doesn't change
Baseball, softball Home Run (Shortcuts card) HOME RUN takeover Scores the batter and every runner

On Apex and Primetime, the home run takeover reads GRAND SLAM! when the bases were loaded.

Extra Point adds 1 with no animation. The small plus and minus buttons in each sport's score box change the score with no animation too. Use them to fix mistakes. See Keep score live.

Apex and Primetime flags

These buttons only appear on an Apex or Primetime match, which needs the Starter plan. They sit in the sport's SHORTCUTS card.

Sport Button What it plays Changes stats?
Football Safety Safety flag Adds 2 to the other team (on Classic too, with no flag)
Basketball AND ONE (per team) AND ONE flag No. Score the free throw separately
Basketball End of Quarter (under TAKEOVERS) END OF 1ST, HALFTIME and so on, from the current period No
Basketball Show Winner The leading team as the winner No. Greyed out on a tie
Volleyball ACE (per team) ACE flag Adds one ace. Doesn't add the point
Volleyball BLOCK (per team) BLOCK flag Adds one block. Doesn't add the point
Volleyball Show Winner The team ahead on sets as the winner No. Greyed out while sets are level
Baseball, softball STRIKEOUT Strikeout flag over the fielding team No: the count, outs and stats don't change
Baseball, softball DOUBLE PLAY Double play flag over the fielding team No
Baseball, softball PITCHING CHANGE Pitching change flag over the fielding team No
MMA KNOCKDOWN (per fighter) Knockdown flag Adds one knockdown to that fighter
MMA TAKEDOWN (per fighter) Takedown flag Adds one takedown to that fighter

The baseball flags have one button, in the fielding team's color, and always play over the team in the field.

The sport guides cover each card in full: football, basketball, volleyball, baseball, softball and MMA.

Results at the end

Two results show by themselves, with no button:

  • MMA: Declare as Winner sets the fight to FINAL and the scorebug shows the result. On Apex and Primetime it enters with a takeover in the winner's color, then a WINNER tab stays over the winner. See Run an MMA fight.
  • Tennis and pickleball: on Apex and Primetime, the winner gets a trophy and the other side dims at the end.

From a Stream Deck

Only football has animated codes:

Code Action
2212 / 2213 Away / Home Touchdown (Animated)
2214 / 2215 Away / Home Field Goal (Animated)

Goal codes in soccer, ice hockey and field hockey change the score with no animation. The baseball Home Run button has no code, and neither do the Apex and Primetime flags, so those are dashboard clicks. See Set up a Stream Deck.

Fix common problems

The touchdown went to the wrong team. Football's Shortcuts card scores for the team with possession. Fix the score with the plus and minus buttons, then set possession before the next score.

The animation didn't play. You used a plain plus button or a Stream Deck goal code. Use the Shortcuts card button for the moment, or field hockey's Trigger Goal Flag Only to play the GOAL takeover without changing the score.

The flag buttons are missing. The match is on Classic. Switch to Apex or Primetime. See Switch templates.

Checklist

  • Scores entered with the Shortcuts card or goal buttons, not the plain plus buttons
  • Possession set before football scores
  • Apex or Primetime chosen if you want the extra flags
  • Remember that volleyball ACE and BLOCK don't add the point
  • Each animation tried once in Live Preview before the game
